The Board of Trustees approves the strategic plan of the Institute

The Board of Trustees of the Institute met at the provisional site of the Institute on May 22nd and approved the Strategic Plan of the Institute for the period 2007 – 2011. The Strategic Plan includes the main research lines to be developed by the Institute researches, the organization and the human capital to achieve these goals as well as the investments in research infrastructures.

Andreas Mortensen

In addition, the Board of Trustees, appointed Professor Andreas Mortensen as a new member of the Board.

Andreas Mortensen is currently Professor and Director of the Institute of Materials at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), where he heads the Laboratory for Mechanical Metallurgy. He joined the faculty of EPFL in 1997, after ten years (from 1986 to 1996) as a member of the faculty of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he held the successive titles of ALCOA Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor.

 

Manuel Elices

The BoT, also appointed Professor Manuel Elices and Dr. Gary Savage as Members of the Scientific Committee.

Professor Elices is currently a Full Professor of Materials Science & Technology at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. His research work is primarily concerned with the mechanical behaviour of materials at very low and very high temperatures, in both theoretical and experimental aspects. He has published more than 300 scientific papers (half in international journals), 10 books and contributed chapters for another 10 books.

 

Gary Savage

Dr. Gary Savage, Director of Operations of Honda Racing F1. Visiting Professor of the Imperial College. Fellow Institute of Materials and Institution of Mechanical Engineers. He has over 25 publications in International Scientific journals, 6 patents and 1 book.
