Abstract

The main objective is to develop a fully implantable system to improve the efficiency of a new therapy against brain cancer, called Tumor Treating Fields (TTF). This therapy is currently only used in patients with glioblastoma (GBM) but applied to the scalp, and is based on alternating electric fields of low intensity (1-3 V/cm) and intermediate frequency (~100-500 kHz).

The idea is to develop an energetically autonomous implantable device for patients with glioblastoma (GBM) and childhood gliomas, in order to significantly increase their life expectancy and quality. The idea is to develop a device to explore the limits of field therapy for the treatment of tumours, a therapy that has recently been approved by the FDA (2015) and whose preliminary results are very promising.
