(CUCCOMP) Development of Cu-C metal matrix composites

Funding: China Scholarship Council
Region: International
Project period: 2014 – 2015
Principal Investigator: Prof. José Manuel Torralba (josemanuel.torralba@imdea.org)

Novel Copper-Carbon metal matrix composites will be developed under three different approaches in relationship with the raw materials employed. Carbon nanotubes will be growth on copper particles, copper powders will be mixed with carbon nanotubes and/or carbon nanofibers, and a composite will be made by mixing copper powders and graphite. The powders will be then consolidated by field assisted hot pressing to get a full density materials that will be evaluated under the point of view of the mechanical properties, thermal conductivity and friction coefficient.
