Rechargeable batteries are nowadays of common use in many electronic systems. Energy storage is at the basis of the use of renewable energies. Li-ion batteries LIB are commonly used in almost all portable electronics due to high energy density and low self-discharge. But LIB face important issues: security under abusive conditions, scarcity of Li, concentration of resources in few geographical areas and high demand of these devices.

Thus we need batteries based on alternative electrochemical systems, as reflected in the lines of action for Research and Innovation of the EC-H2020 programme. Post-LIB, as Na-ion and Mg batteries, gained great interest in recent years as sound candidates for energy storage applications. The project deal with the development of batteries based on Na-ion, Mg and hybrid concepts and focus on 3 aspects: electrode materials; electrolytes; and integration of all components in prototypes.
